Maintenance & Reliability

4 questions

How does the MP5 require so little maintenance?

expand_more

The MP5™ features a patented self-cleaning technology called SensiCLENE™, which uses an impeller to cycle special polymer beads over the sensor electrodes and pH probe. This continuous cleaning prevents buildup and fouling, reducing the need for frequent manual intervention. Unlike traditional sensors, it requires no membranes or reagents to replace, and its stable calibration can last for months — sometimes up to a year — minimizing upkeep.

What maintenance is required?

expand_more

Maintenance is minimal. A calibration check is recommended every 60 days, with a pH calibration check annually. The wear parts — impeller, o-rings, cleaning beads, and screen — should be replaced yearly, and the pH sensor cartridge every two years. These tasks are quick, taking just minutes, and don't typically affect calibration, thanks to the SensiCLENE™ system.

How long is the chlorine probe itself anticipated to last before it needs to be replaced?

expand_more

5 years, then the sensor is rebuilt. The self-cleaning system significantly extends electrode life compared to conventional amperometric sensors that require frequent manual cleaning.

What is the warranty on the analyzers?

expand_more

1 year.

Installation & Installation Flexibility

4 questions

Why can the MP5 be installed anywhere?

expand_more

The MP5™ is designed with flexible installation options due to its small footprint, flow independence, and durability. It can be inserted directly into a pipe (wet-tap), installed in a PVC tee, submerged in a tank, or used in a flow cell. Its NSF-61 certification allows it to be placed in drinking water systems without a waste stream, and it withstands pressures up to 10 bar (150 psi) and a wide range of conditions, making it adaptable to various environments.

How can I install the MP5™ sensors in an active pipeline?

expand_more

The MP5™ offers a wet-tap (hot-tap) installation option, allowing it to be inserted directly into an active pipeline without interrupting flow. A retractable remover kit (H1WT-P) facilitates this process, enabling maintenance or removal without shutting down the system. This is supported by its NSF-61 certification and robust design, which handles pressures up to 150 psi.

If an MP5 side stream sensor is used, can the waste stream be returned to the process or tank?

expand_more

Yes. All of the wetted components are NSF-61 certified. The side stream flow can be returned directly to the process without concern for contamination.

We have pressurized pipes, tanks, and open channels — would there be a situation or condition where the analyzer would not be ideal?

expand_more

Bubbles are the main interference. Areas with cavitation or turbulence should be avoided. The sensor handles pressures from 0 to 10 bar (145 psi) and flow from zero to 4 m/s across a wide range of installation configurations.

Measurement & Performance

5 questions

Do I have to be concerned about flow or pressure changes in the installation?

expand_more

No, the MP5™ is unaffected by flow or pressure variations. It has an integrated pump that maintains a consistent flow across the electrodes, ensuring accurate readings regardless of external conditions — ranging from zero flow to 4 m/s and pressures from 0 to 10 bar. This flow independence eliminates the need for complex flow-control plumbing.

Will it work in zero flow?

expand_more

Yes, the MP5™ operates effectively even in zero-flow conditions. Its built-in pump generates its own flow across the electrodes, ensuring reliable measurements without relying on external water movement. This makes it ideal for static environments like tanks or pipes with intermittent flow.

Does the sensor have a "memory" if it is not exposed to chlorine for hours or days?

expand_more

The MP5™ doesn't suffer from a "memory effect" after prolonged absence of chlorine. Its pH cartridge is designed to rapidly rewet and restore accuracy within 3 minutes of reimmersion, even if it dries out. The sensor stabilizes within 5 minutes of installation or re-exposure, and its calibration remains intact, unaffected by dry periods or lack of chlorine.

How does the sensor measure monochloramine and free chlorine on the same sensor?

expand_more

The MP5™ uses advanced amperometric technology with a three-electrode system, enhanced by onboard pH and temperature compensation. The MP-TOTAL variant, built on the MP5™ platform, is specifically designed for measuring both monochloramine and free chlorine alongside other parameters like pH, conductivity, and ORP. This multiparameter capability is achieved through precise electrochemical detection tailored to distinguish these chlorine species.

How is the monochloramine/free chlorine sensor different from total chlorine measurement?

expand_more

The MP-TOTAL can measure free chlorine and monochloramine as distinct parameters, while total chlorine includes both free and combined chlorine (like monochloramine). The sensor's ability to differentiate free chlorine and monochloramine provides more specific data. It also provides a total chlorine measurement in addition to free chlorine and monochloramine levels.
